Ralph Macchio is returning for a Karate Kid movie... with Jackie Chan (yes, you read that right)

STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD.

The Karate Kid is back. Well, back again. This time, in a cinematic installment of what seems to be shaping up to be a shared universe, we'll be meeting a young Chinese karate kid living on the East Coast. But he wont be alone. No, every karate kid needs a mentor, and this one will likely have two iconic members of the franchise to rely on, including the very first karate kid, Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio and trainer Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan in the 2010 Karate Kid reboot starring young Jaden Smith. Of course, because Jackie Chan's Mr. Han was in the reboot version of the franchise, both Chan and Macchio appearing in this film will be the official merging of all Karate Kids.

The search is on for the teen who will be playing the titular Karate Kid, but this casting news is certainly making it seem like Sony will be pulling out all the stops to make this movie a success, capitalizing on the runaway television spinoff hit Cobra Kai, and maybe establishing Karate Kid, a nearly forty year old movie, as a still-viable television and cinematic franchise.

This untitled Karate Kid movie will be directed by I’m Not Okay with This's Jonathan Entwhistle and will feature a screenplay from Peter Rabbit's Rob Lieber. The film is currently set to release in theaters on December 13, 2024.
