The original Planet of the Apes film was released nearly 60 years ago, yet the franchise shows no signs of slowing down yet. The series was rebooted in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which has spawned three sequels of its own. The latest sequel, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is due out later this year.

Set some 300 years after the War for the Planet of the Apes, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to arrive in cinemas on May 10, 2024. The massive time gap has led to a world completely dominated by apes. The trailers certainly seem to suggest that humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction, living in small tribes and being hunted by the new primate rulers of the planet.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming out at a very crowded period at the theater. It will need to get off to a fast start at the box office as most of the grown-ups will be heading to see Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and most of the kids will be off to see Chris Pratt’s turn at Garfield two weeks later during the lucrative Memorial Day weekend. Originally the Apes’ latest outing was meant to come out the same weekend but the intense competition forced the studio to rethink their strategy.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague as Noa, a chimpanzee, and Freya Allan, a young human woman, as they set out on a journey to stop an ape clan leader named Proximus Caesar from twisting the original Caesar’s teachings and seeking out remnants of human technology. Again, the movie will arrive in theaters May 10, 2024.
