When you cast someone with the gravitas and raw, unbridled charisma of Idris Elba, you don’t want to let him go. That’s why Paramount has been hard at work for nearly two years on the perfect vehicle for Elba’s talent. That project is, of course, the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles.
In addition to a new poster that has been published on social media, we also got our first look at the six-episode series that is due to land on Paramount+ this April. Elba is joined by most of the cast from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in the new trailer, which shows Knuckles going on a journey with Wade Whipple, played by Adam Pally, to help the deputy sheriff learn the ways of the Echidna warrior. Ben Schwartz and Colleen O’Shaughnessey make brief appearances as Sonic and Tails in the trailer, though we expect they’ll wander off after a brief appearance in the first episode. This time, it is all about Idris Elba and Knuckles getting into his own brand of stoic misadventures.
The trailer gives most of the series' plot details for the upcoming series, which includes a physically menacing Rory McCann – best known as The Hound in Game of Thrones – taking the place of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik as the series villain. We also found out that the entire series will drop on Paramount+ on April 26 in the US and April 27 in other territories. Most importantly, we get to see Knuckles sporting his iconic cowboy hat, something the character has occasionally worn since his Archie comics appearances. Knuckles will be followed up by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in December 2024.
