As outrageous as it seems, Five Nights at Freddy’s is 10 years old next month — the first game was released August 8, 2014 — and creator of the whole thing Scott Cawthon is partnering with Scholastic Books for a special gift to celebrate with fans: a free interactive novel that lets fans visit Freddy Fazbear’s for themselves… well, if they’re prepared to deal with some unexpected consequences, of course…

Created by Cawthon and author E.C. Meyers, Five Nights at Freddy’s: VIP, an AFK Book will be an ebook release in which the reader becomes Devon, who gets to live every kid’s dream when they win an all-expenses paid experience at Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex, accompanied by a digital companion called “Very Informative Pig.” But… is this everything that Devon thought it was going to be, or something very, very different indeed? What if Devon’s hosts have a scarier visit in mind than anyone else expected…?

VIP will feature multiple options for readers to explore the story, with different endings available for those… well, let’s just go with “less fortunate than others,” shall we…? The book will also have two difficulty settings, according to the publisher, and act as the ideal introduction for September’s Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Week Before, one of two full-length interactive novels already announced by Scholastic. (The second, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Return to the Pit, will be released in December.)

Five Nights at Freddy’s: VIP, an AFK Book will be released August 3 to mark the 10-year anniversary of the franchise, which continues to go from strength to strength following the success of last year’s movie. (Of course, a sequel is already in the works.) Take an exclusive look at the cover for the release below!
