Suzanne Collins unlikely to write another Hunger Games sequel book, at least according to her editor
With a new Hunger Games prequel book, Sunrise of the Reaping, out now, it seems that Suzanne Collins isn't keen on writing what comes next for Katniss

Hunger Games fans have been eating well recently. Two years ago, a movie adaptation of the prequel book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, was released in theaters, pulling in a solid profit for Lionsgate. This week, the follow-up book to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Sunrise of the Reaping, has hit bookstores and libraries. Lionsgate isn't keen on having fans wait long to see Sunrise of the Reaping on the big screen either. In fact, a movie adaptation of this brand-new book is expected to hit theaters in November 2026.
But, while the Hunger Games prequel stories are having a bit of a moment, don't expect to see author Suzanne Collins explore the latter part of this dystopian universe any time soon. In an interview with Variety, Collins's editor at Scholastic, David Levithan, offered a concise picture of where Collins stands with her universe: "I believe the ending of Mockingjay is the ending of the series."
So, it seems that at least for now, Collins is content with Mockingjay being a bookend for the Hunger Games series. But that doesn't mean that Collins won't be up for writing more prequel books, either. To put it simply, there's quite a lot that can still be explored within the world of the Hunger Games. I think that as long as fans show up ready to read Collins's new books, the story will continue, even if it goes backwards in time.
