Star Wars: The Acolyte prequel with Jedi masters Vernestra Rwoh and Indara coming in 2025 to bookstores

Being a Jedi isn't all cool lightsaber fights and Force tricks, as we saw in The Acolyte and now in its prequel, Star Wars: Wayseeker.

In much the same way HBO's The Wire changed the way we see the police, Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Acolyte did the same for us and the Jedi. And now, following the end of The Acolyte's first season, the Star Wars franchise is expanding on that with the first major prequel to that live-action series - and again it's dealing with the politics of being a Jedi.

Scheduled to debut in May 2025, Star Wars: The Acolyte - Wayseeker is a prose novel prequel to the Acolyte centering on Jedi Masters Vernestra Rwoh and Indara as they struggle to find their place in the changing landscape of the Jedi structure.

"Before The Acolyte, Vernestra Rwoh must find her place in the Jedi Order," reads Lucasfilm's description of the prose novel. "Vernestra Rwoh has spent over a decade exploring the Outer Rim as a Wayseeker, answering to no other authority but the Force itself. When a request from the Jedi Council orders her back to Coruscant, Vernestra initially refuses, feeling that her first priority should be to the beings she's already serving."

What convinces her to come back isn't a what, but a who - Jedi Master Indara.

"But after Jedi Master Indara arrives to ask for Vernestra’s aid in person, Vernestra finds herself pulled back into Coruscant’s complicated world of Republic politics and underworld crime," Lucasfilm's description continues. "As the two delve further into their investigation, the lines between Jedi and Republic business blur, and Vernestra must reconsider what it means to serve for Light and Life."

Star Wars: The Acolyte - Wayseeker is to be written by veteran Star Wars scribe Justina Ireland, and is being released by Random House Worlds.

Star Wars: The Acolyte - Wayseeker is scheduled to debut May 6, 2025.
