J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis? Shades of Magic author V.E. Schwab reveals the two kinds of fantasy fiction, and which she writes

For prose author V.E. Schwab of Shades of Magic fame, she sees fantasy fiction being split into two categories: one in complete distinction from reality such as the works of the Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, and the other being fantastical worlds still connected to reality such as C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. While she squirms at the idea of it being based on "two dead white guys," the author of the upcoming Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil says they serve as pedestals for her reasoning.
