The world of The Witcher is immense, but that's part of what drives interest for so many fans. Given the unevenness of the Netflix show, it's understandable that a lot of folks would want to go straight to the source and start reading the original Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski to get a more well-rounded understanding of what's going on in the world of fantasy's crankiest man, Geralt of Rivia.
As it turns out, us Witcher fans are going to be eating well this year and the next. Beyond the announcement of The Witcher 4 video game and a new prequel prose novel, the two novels in The Witcher book series are going to be re-translated into English. These would be the books Blood of Elves and The Last Wish, and they are to be translated by David French. French has translated six Witcher books into English, so it's fair to say that he's a veteran of interpreting Sapkowski's writing at this point. The new translations of The Last Wish and Blood of Elves will be out in 2026.
Blood of Elves and the collection of short stories called The Last Wish were both translated by Danusia Stok. The English translations of the books were originally published in 2008. Since then, The Witcher fandom has obviously grown in the Anglophone world, so it's not surprising that Orbit, the publisher of the English Witcher books, would want a more uniform translation across all of The Witcher books.
If you can't wait until 2026 to catch up on your Witcher books, you're in luck. There's a new Witcher novel that follows an eighteen-year-old Geralt called Crossroads of Ravens, which will be out September 30, 2025. David French has once again translated Sapkowski's prose.
