Batgirl of Burnside co-creator Babs Tarr is back at DC working on a secret new comic - inspired by a San Diego Comic-Con joke
A decade ago Babs Tarr reinvented DC's Batgirl. Now they've asked her to do it again, for another character.

Stop the presses... who is that? That's Babs Tarr, co-creator of the critically acclaimed Batgirl of Burnside era - and she's working on a new series for DC. We're not supposed to talk about it yet, but we did at MCM x EGX 2024 happening now in London, on a DC panel.
Tarr, who sat with me on the stage with longtime friend (and Batman '89 artist) Joe Quinones, mentioned that she is working on a new series for DC comics. While she didn't say what the series was, she said it was based on a joke from a San Diego Comic-Con joke "two years ago."
This would be Tarr's first major comics work in four years, after the Overwatch: Tracer - London Calling series she drew in 2020.
Tarr balked at revealing more on this mystery DC project, but based on what she prefers to draw for commissions I would easily assume its a mainstream DC character, and will take in what she enjoys most - fashion, exercise, and or romance takes on popular characters.
She did say its her dream character to draw, but kept tight-lipped on who it was.
Could it be an Absolute book? A Black Label book? Or perhaps a main continuity 'All In' title? It's too soon to tell, but I'll ask for more from her tomorrow as she joins us on our inaugural Artist Alley Asks panel debuting at MCM x EGX 2024.
Here's a list of all our stories from MCM x EGX 2024.
