One thing that's pretty great about attending a Chris Evans coic conventions panel? You know he's gonna talk about his dog.
Dodger, Evans' much-beloved shelter pup, is a frequent topic of conversation for the Captain America actor. So when Popverse's Veronica Valencia offered him the chance to speak about his best buddy at New York Comic Con 2023, he didn't waste any time.
"Let's talk about Dodger," Evans said excitedly. "I'm such a dog dad. I miss him when I'm away from him for a day. I miss him terribly. Sometimes I look at him and I get like, [cuteness aggression noises] 'I want to rip your head off! You're so sweet!' And he just doesn't know it. You know, he has no idea. He's just existing and it's - God, he's the best. Damn [...] He's such a flirt! He just wants to talk to everybody, see everybody. He assumes everyone wants to talk to him."
But Evans didn't just stop at singing Dodgers's praises. As the panel went on, the actor got into his current work with dog food brand Jinx, which aims to bring affordable, healthy food to pet parents. He described how he would pay special attention to the Jinx customers who had adopted dogs from shelters, and how, without Dodger, they wouldn't have been on his radar as much.
"I think prior to Dodger," Evans said, "I don't know if I always realized how special shelter dogs are, you know? Specifically [...] older dogs that have had, you know, challenging experiences. The gratitude that they will just shower on you - it's such a beautiful thing. So I said to Jinx, why don't we go to a shelter and specifically talk to some older dogs? They were like, 'Sure, whatever you wanna do.' And they just, you know, gave us the green light. So me and my buddy Mark [Kassen] - who's my producing partner for a lot of things - me, him and a camera went to this shelter and just hung out with dogs for the day. I was like, well, this is just the best possible job. I don't know if I can beat this. We're hoping to do a lot more stuff like that in the future."
Well, if you got through reading that without crying, you're a stronger person than I am. And even if you didn't, you have to admit - it's a pretty cool thing that Captain America's doing some heroic work in our world too. And what's more, his sidekick in this world is even cuter than Sebastian Stan.
Sorry Bucky.
