Don't miss Florida Supercon 2024, happening in Miami Beach Friday July 12 - 14. Popverse will be there all three days, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more. Buy tickets now!

At Florida Supercon this July, I can promise that you will not lack in geeky treats. Little snacks in the shape of your favorite characters will be everywhere, just as they are at any pop culture convention. But in Miami, you'll be able to experience foodie fandom unlike ever before - as the 'From Screen to Kitchen: Creating Recipes Inspired by Pop Culture/Media' panel series will teach you to make your own nerdy hors d'oeuvre.

Hosting the three-part series is the captain of con cuisine himself, Jarrett Melendez. Along with numerous comic projects, Melendez is author of several licensed cookbooks tuned to the most popular of fandoms, including My Pokémon Baking Book, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Official Cookbook, and The Official Wednesday Cookbook.

The 'From Screen to Kitchen' series is broken up between each day of the convention, for an hourly panel apiece. Listed below are the panels, along with their schedule and the delictable item that Melendez will be teaching you how to make.

  • Friday, July 12 at 2:00PM EST - From the technicolor universe of Pokémon come Melendez's Doduo Chocolate Macaroons. According to the FSC website, the macaroons are "inspired by Doduo’s heads," and come "with tiny beaks made from slivered almonds."
  • Saturday, July 13 at 6:00PM EST - Fit for the Olympians themselves are Melendez's Blue Chocolate Chip Cookies. Straight out of the Percy Jackson series, these are based on the very treat Percy's mother makes him. Aww.
  • Sunday, July 14 at 2:00PM EST - Explore the dark side of desert with the Nightshade Society Poe Parfait, a morsel made to match the haunted atmosphere of Netflix's Wednesday. It's probably not poisoned, but maybe get your will in order. Just in case.

Each of the panels in the From Screen to Kitchen series will take place in Ballroom C: The Tavern Workshops, so finding one of them means you've found them all. And here's the really exciting part: at the end of each panel, every audience member in attendance is going to get a copy of that panel's recipe to take home, in the form of a recipe card. So if the gift of knowledge isn't enough for you, check out From Screen to Kitchen for the con exclusives.
