How NYCC almost had a surprise appearance from DCU’s Supergirl Milly Alcock (and why she didn’t show up)

Fabien Frankel tried to convince his House of the Dragon costar Milly Alcock to attend NYCC, but the actress refused.

Don't miss New York Comic Con 2024, happening October 17 through 20. Popverse is here all four days, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more.

New York City Comic-Con 2024 was filled with lots of fun surprises, but there was one surprise that didn’t come to fruition. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow actress Milly Alcock almost made a surprise appearance at the convention, but her friend couldn’t talk her into it.

Prior to being cast as Kara Zor-El in James Gunn’s DCU, Milly Alcock played Rhaenyra Targaryen on HBO’s House of the Dragon. As such, it was only natural that the actress was mentioned during a spotlight panel featuring her costars Matt Smith, Fabien Frankel, and Tom Glynn-Carney.

“Did she tell you that she was going to be Supergirl?” Matt Smith asked his costars. “Not when we were working. After we finished the job she told me. She said, ‘I’ve been cast as Supergirl,’” Fabien Frankel answered

“I think that’s really interesting casting. She’s brilliant,” Smith gushed.

“She’s in New York everyone. I actually told her to come. I was like, ‘Just come to Comic Con. Just come.’ She was like, ‘Absolutely no fucking way,’” Frankel revealed.

It would’ve been cool to have Alcock surprise everyone on the con floor, but it wasn’t in the cards. Before anyone jumps to any negative conclusions, it’s possible her reluctance was because of crowd issues or something personal. Still, we hope to see Supergirl soar into NYCC as the release date for her film approaches.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
