New York Comic Con talks back - See what fans at the Javits Center voted as their favorite parts of NYCC '24

Using the Play NYCC app, attendees to this year's New York Comic Con voted on their favorite booths, panels, exclusive merch and more. Learn the results here

Popverse was there for all four days of New York Comic Con 2024, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more. If you couldn't make it (or are worried you missed something) click the link for our wall-to-wall coverage of the event.

It's been just under a month since we were at New York Comic Con 2024, and it feels the dust is only just now settling. From huge comic book announcements to a plethora of fandom events to one of the largest gatherings of pop culture icons in the entire world, NYCC had just about anything a fan could ask for this year. Despite the staggering quantity of things to do and see, though, you had to walk out of there with some favorites right? You're only human, after all.

And New York Comic Con knew that you'd have those favorites, which is why it ran the Play NYCC poll available via app on attendees' phones. Play NYCC asked congoers to select their favorites out of a handful of categories, including Best Booth, Most Exciting Author, Best Anime Panel, and... well, I'm getting ahead of myself.

See what fans called their favorites at New York Comic Con 2024 by reading on.

Most Anticipated Anime Panel at NYCC '24 - Dragon Ball DAIMA Special Panel

2024 marked the passing of Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball manga and progenitor of one of the most popular anime franchises in history. But fans weren't at NYCC to mourn Toriyama, they were there to celebrate his life and creation, a fact reflected in the number one spot that Dragon Ball Daima took in the contest of Most Anticipated Anime panel at the con.

  1. Dragon Ball DAIMA Special Panel - 28.5%

Most Anticipated Movie/TV Panel at NYCC '24 - The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

I know, we've been getting a lot of anime results from these polls so far, but this next one is... oh wait, it's actually another anime. Granted, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is unique amongst its anime sisters in that it's the first and only time anime has adapted the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, but we can't help but think there were some fans of other popular anime at the panel as well. At least, that's one explanation as to how it might've just eeked out a victory over HBO's Penguin panel for Most Anticipated Movie/TV Panel.

  1. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim - 14.3%
  2. HBO’s The Penguin - 14%
  3. What We Do in the Shadows (FX) - 13.6%

  7. BlumFest NYCC - 7.6%
  8. Futurama - 7.1%
  9. Star Trek Universe - 5.8%
  10. Outlander Season Seven Part Two Preview - 5.2%
  11. Netflix presents The Electric State - 3.2%
  12. Prime Video’s Cross - 0.7%

Who in Artist Alley were you most looking forward to at NYCC '24 - Scott Snyder

One of the biggest events in the comic space this year was the release of Absolute Batman #1, which sees longtime Batman writer Scott Snyder return to the character (well, an alternate universe version of the character). That fact probably contributed to the fact that Snyder himself was the Most Anticipated guest at New York Comic Con's Artist Alley this year, though webcomic and My Little Pony writer Katie Cook came in just behind him.

  1. Scott Snyder - 20.7%
  2. Katie Cook - 20.5%
  3. Jorge Jimenez - 11.1%
  4. Arthur Adams - 7.8%
  5. Greg Capullo - 7.6%
  6. Tom King - 7.4%
  7. Chip Zdarsky - 7%
  8. Steenz - 4.2%
  9. Dexter Vines - 4%
  10. Patrick Horvath - 3.5%
  11. Jeff Lemire - 3.2%
  12. Jamal Igle - 1.8%
  13. Whilce Portacio - 1.2%

Most Anticipated Author Appearance at NYCC '24 - R.A. Salvatore

Right next to Artist Alley on Floor One of the Javits Center is NYCC's Writer's Block, where some of the most talented literary minds working today stop by to meet, greet, and autograph. Of the many names appearing at this year's con, one stands out as having been a fantasy staple fro decades, and as you might guess, won the poll for Most Anticipated author. That was R.A. Salvatore, who came in comfortably above the runner up, Tomi Adeyemi.

  1. R.A. Salvatore - 22.4%
  2. Tomi Adeyemi - 16.1%
  3. Gail Simone - 14.6%
  4. V.E. Schwab - 14.4%

  8. Tui Sutherland - 6.6%

So you want to make NYCC last forever - the best way is to take a picture. But where's the best place to take that picture? According to this poll, it was in font of the always exciting Marvel booth. And when we say this selection won the poll, we mean it swept, coming in at nearly 30% more (!!) than its immediate follower, the Tamagotchi station presented by Bandai.

  1. Marvel - 41.5%
  2. Bandai/Tamagotchi - 12.9%
  3. Civil Regime/Nightmare Before Christmas - 12.1%
  4. WEBTOON - 11.4%
  5. McDonalds (Inner Roadway) - 6%
  6. Games Workshop - 5.3%
  7. All Nippon Airways - 3.7%
  8. Hallmark - 3.3%
  9. Scholastic - 3%
  10. Atlas 5 & Dime - 0.8%

Best Exclusive on the Show Floor at NYCC '24 - Funko & Loungefly: One PIece Exclusive Set

And last but certainly not least is Play NYCC's Best Showfloor Exclusive poll. As you well know, NYCC Exclusives are always in high demand at this show (in fact, they're the entire reason some people show up), and everyone's got different tastes as to what makes the perfect collectible. But, as you've certainly noticed, anime fans had the most to eat this year, and it only makes sense that the winner of this poll would be something on their menu.

  1. Funko & Loungefly: One Piece Exclusive Set - 23.7%
  2. Hallmark: Pokémon Premiere Ball Ornament - 13.3%
  3. Unknown Comics: X Men Variant - 12.4%
