Over the course of her Oscar-winning career, Michelle Yeoh has played some memorable characters. However, her love for her Star Trek: Section 31 character, Philippa Georgiou, lingers even after the movie wrapped filming. According to the legendary actress herself, she'll always have a place in her heart for Emperor Georgiou.

The Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con 2024 ended with an appearance from Michelle Yeoh and her castmates from the new Star Trek: Section 31 movie. Yeoh recounted how she knew her character Emperor Philippa Georgiou was something special right away. “Emperor Georgiou is probably one of the most complex, fun, out-of-this-world characters that I’ve played,” she said. “It’s not possible to let go of a character like that."

Asked whether she ever thought her character would still be around years later and have such an integral role, Yeoh admitted, “To be honest, yes,” to huge cheers from the fans. “You know when you have something really special, and you will find ways and means to make sure it doesn’t stop, it will keep coming back and going on,” she said, with very Georgiou-like determination. “I’ve discovered an amazing family in Star Trek, in Alex and Tunde and all that, and we just kept moving forward.”

Section 31, she revealed, was a story idea that she had been in talks about as far back as Star Trek: Discovery’s season 2. “It was like, how do I keep holding onto something that is so incredible and never letting go?” she asked. “So, here we are today.”

The movie Star Trek: Section 31 debuts on Paramount+ on January 24th.
