Magic: The Gathering teams with iconic Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito for its new horror-themed set

Masahiro Ito is a guest artist for Duskmourn: House of Horror, MTG has announced

It’s a pairing made in heaven… or, given the context, perhaps Hell is a better setting — but Magic: The Gathering is bringing on a very special guest artist for its upcoming horror release, Duskmourn: House of Horror. Is everyone ready to see monster master Masahiro Ito take on the classic card game?

“One of the amazing things we get to do when we work on sets is we get to work with amazing artists,” explained Magic the Gathering executive producer Mike Turian, introducing Masahiro Ito’s artwork for the upcoming Duskmourn: House of Horror set. “Getting to work with Masahiro Ito, who’s the artist for a very popular video game franchise, and taking him and pairing him with Damnation […] it’s one of the most classically iconic Magic cards paired with a video game horror artist, that’s amazing.”

Masahiro Ito is, of course, best known for his work on the Silent Hill video game franchise, having worked as a monster designer for the first three installments, and the art director for 2001’s Silent Hill 2 and 2003’s Silent Hill 3. He has also been involved in this year’s short Silent Hill: The Short Message, and the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake.

Although Ito’s artwork for the Damnation card was briefly visible onscreen during the Magic: The Gathering panel at PAX West 2024, fans had a chance to see it up close and personal as part of a subsequent Duskmourn signing session elsewhere at the con, where Popverse had the chance to get this image:

Ito’s Damnation card will be included in the upcoming Duskmourn: House of Horror release, out September 27. PAX West 2024 runs until September 2 at the Seattle Convention Center.
