John Cho doesn't know what's going on with the Star Trek movie series (and that's on purpose)
"I don't want to get my hopes up," the Sulu actor told Rose City Comic Con when asked about the rumored fourth film in the series

John Cho’s take on Star Trek’s Hikaru Sulu is a beloved reimagining of a fan-favorite character, and a role he’s understandably proud of — but, as he explained during an appearance at Rose City Comic Con 2024, he’s purposefully not paying attention to updates about when he’ll get to play the character again… with good reason.
“Listen, I all I know is what you guys know, and which is that there's a sincere push to make it happen,” Cho told the Portland, Oregon crowd when asked for updates about the Star Trek movie franchise. But, it turned out, it’s a very particular choice to not try to find out more than most people, despite being one of the main characters in the franchise.
“I know that there have been multiple efforts, and I don't know where it sits right now,” he continued. “I actually try not to hear it like I hear kind of things flying by my ears, and I choose not to cup a hand to my ear, because I don't want to get my hopes up. I just want to be surprised and delighted when I get the call to suit up, you know? I'm sorry I don't have any inside information, but it is by design. I don't want the inside information.”
Bad news for those hoping for a scoop on the fourth (and reportedly final) Star Trek movie in the Kelvin Timeline, but good news for those who wanted proof that the actors involved are as excited about the opportunity to return to the final frontier as you’d want them to be.
