Our Flag Means Death is over, as much as that might upset fans to admit, but at Rose City Comic Con, four members of the show’s cast — Vico Ortiz, Rhys Darby, Kristian Nairn, and Matthew Maher — were asked what their dream roles would be for future projects. It’s safe to say that a couple of the answers might seem somewhat surprising, but also entirely perfect.
“You know, as soon as you started asking that, I thought of Dracula,” Darby said, adding, “that would be a dream for me.” So much of a dream, in fact, that he’d return to the idea later in the panel, imagining the costume — it would have a high collar, apparently — and referring to himself as “The Drac.”
Maher is similarly sticking with a classic, albeit somewhat more generically, suggesting “something with weird wizard vibes. I have no ideas, except a wizard. Can I say ‘a wizard’ out loud?”
Turns out, Nairn was feeling a similar inspiration, announcing that his pick would be “any version of Gandalf,” joking, “I’ve had a lot of experience with sackcloth” because of his Game of Thrones experience. That was just one of his two choices, however; he also announced, “I’d love to do a movie like Lost in Translation,” which he revealed was one of his favorite films. “I’ve traveled a lot, and I’d like to do a movie that expresses what it’s like to travel a lot, and see lots of different cities and different ways of life.”
But let’s turn to Vico Ortiz to take us back to wizards — kind of — with their absolutely ideal suggestion: “Any kind of Dark Jedi. Give me a fucking lightsaber already,” they said, to raucous cheers from the crowd. Lucasfilm, are you listening? The star of your next big Star Wars project just might have announced themselves.
