Don't miss New York Comic Con 2024, happening October 17 through 20. Popverse is here all four days, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more.

Sicario fans have had patience for days, patience that Josh Brolin has confirmed is well founded. The actor confirmed that a sequel to 2018’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado is on its way. While we can’t expect to see a third Sicario film out in the near, near future (like, next year), the wait will be worth it.

Speaking at a spotlight panel at New York Comic Con 2024, Josh Brolin provided more details about the development of Sicario 3. “Molly Smith and all the people at Black Label [Media, the production company behind the first two films] are actively trying to get this thing done. There’s been iterations of it, to me, it’s up to Emily [Blunt], it’s up to me, it’s up to Benicio [del Toro], to feel really good about the story before we do it. And we won’t let 20 years go by, I promise.”

The first Sicario film, which was released in 2015, was directed by Denis Villeneuve. Brolin would later go on to work with Villeneuve again on Dune Part One and Part Two, where he played everyone’s favorite sci-fi bard-fighter, Gurney Halleck. It’s unclear if Villeneuve would be able to return to the franchise for the third film. We would certainly love to see Villeneuve and Brolin continue their collaboration, but we understand that the director is massively busy these days. It will only be a matter of time before more details about the Sicario sequel come to light.

Popverse is providing wall-to-wall coverage of New York Comic Con 2024, with an all-star crew of writers, editors, and video producers there all four days (and nights).
