The hellbound duo of Alex Brightman and Brandon Rogers of Hazbin Hotel fame made the trip this week to London for MCM x EGX 2024, and took part in a raucous hour-long panel about the show with Popverse's Veronica Valencia. In it, Brightman revealed a stunning part of the audition process for him - and how he broke into voice acting all together.
Brightman said he came to voice acting after spending 15 years on Broadway including starring in School of Rock and Beetlejuice the Musical. "The cool thing about that is I was showcasing a voice every single night for eight times a week for two-and-a-half-hours on stage," he remembered. "So one of those nights [Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano] came to see the show, who I had never met. Over the pandemic I got an email, 'Hey, I saw your show, thought it was great. Would you do that exact voice on one of my characters?' So I had said yes because I had nothing to lose and wanted to be in the voiceover world."
Brightman said he had been wanting to get into the voiceover industry for years, but assumed it was a "very exclusive club." He also revealed that he "auditioned for every single character on Habin Hotel," and that there is a reel that he will "eventually release" of him auditioning for all the characters. He specifically mentions doing a tryout for Alastor and Husk.
"They couldn't decide between Adam and Pentious, and so they didn't decide... which makes me very happy for me and my bank account," he joked.
Brightman says his trip to London for MCM x EGX 2024 is his second-ever trip here, with the previously being as only a child. "This has been beyond a dream to be able to sit here to know that that is what got you all here," Brightman said, referring to the fans in the panel audience. "That you enjoy something silly that we enjoy."
