Hazbin Hotel’s Alex Brightman talks emotional season 2 arc

At NYCC 2024, Hazbin Hotel’s Adam and Sir Pentious shared details about the upcoming season

While the debut of season 2 of everyone’s favorite new animated show is an undisclosed number of months away — “We’re pretty far, we’re making really good progress,” Hazbin Hotel showrunner Vivienne Pedrano told the New York Comic Con 2024 crowd — the vocal performances are all long since finished. And asked how they might be upping their game in the new season, Alex Brightman shared that season 2 saw him in new territory as an actor.

“I mean this genuinely,” he told the audience at NYCC. “ In season two of Hazbin Hotel I’ve done in my opinion the most dramatic thing I have done in my career, in terms of heart and sadness and things like that.” In fact, he revealed, “It took a lot out of me, and that’s a weird thing to say because that’s not how I feel about a lot of things. But I’ve spent a lot of time with these characters…”

Brightman wouldn’t reveal whether “the dramatic thing” involves Sir Pentious, who at the end of season one has now become an angel in Heaven, or the angel Adam, who last we saw had been stabbed to death by Nifty.  “Maybe I play another character in season two,” he suggested, to oohs and ahhs from the audience, before he admitted, “I don’t.”

“I genuinely remember taking it with me when I left,” he shared. “Because I was so excited about what it was, getting it right was very important. Sincerely, being a comedian first, this is the most dramatic thing I have done, I think.”
