Marvel and Sony wouldn’t even tell Andrew Garfield about all the surprises in Spider-Man: No Way Home
Andrew Garfield wasn’t given a full script for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Marvel and Sony worked overtime to hide the surprises in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In fact, even some of the film's stars didn’t have access to the complete script. For example, Andrew Garfield had no idea that Charlie Cox would have a surprise cameo as Matt Murdock. That’s right, even though Garfield was one of the three Spider-Men featured in the film, Marvel and Sony still wouldn’t give him the complete script.
During a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention, Charlie Cox shared. the story of how he and Garfield each found out the other was in the movie.
“I found out I was going to be in Spider-Man: No Way Home in the middle of 2020. I didn’t film it until a year later, so the whole time I was trying to keep it a secret. One of my dear friends was Andrew Garfield, and I had read that he was in it, and I had heard from a couple of people that it was probably true.”
“When I got to Atlanta to film, I texted him, ‘If the trades are to be believed, we are in the same movie.’ And he replied, ‘No dude. I’m doing Spider-Man.’ And I went, ‘Yeah, we’re in the same movie.’ And he was like, ‘You’re in Spider-Man?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘You’re not in the script.’ And I was like, ‘I’m in my script.’ So obviously, my scene wasn’t in one of the scripts that was handed out.”
This led to the two actors meeting up at a restaurant, which almost spoiled the movie. Luckily, the paparazzi didn’t catch them.
Maybe there’s a lesson in this. If you’re secretly in a Spider-Man movie, check in with your friends, because they might secretly be in the movie too.
