What do you get when you take the studio behind some of the most iconic Shonen anime of all time and team them up with one of the most recognizable brands in the world? We’re not entirely sure but we’re going to find out because anime studio Pierrot has announced a team-up with fast food chain McDonalds to produce… something.
Pierrot is best known for producing the anime adaptations for Naruto, Bleach, and Yu Yu Hakusho, as well as plenty of other iconic shows over the years, while McDonald’s is best known for producing America’s high blood pressure, so a collaboration between the two certainly caught us off guard. A teaser for the project was posted to the McDonald’s Twitter/X account on Tuesday, promising a team-up between “the creators of the world's most iconic animes” and “the creators of the world's most iconic fries.” We’re going to ignore the misspelling of anime’s plural form, which is already both singular and plural, and focus on the imagery seen in the teaser.

The 15-second clip tells us pretty much nothing about what this team-up between the studio behind the anime adaptation is other than it is coming to participating McDonald’s restaurants on February 26, 2024. The animation looks like it could be from a fast food-themed isekai, which, considering that Delicious in Dungeon is one of the biggest anime series of the current season, doesn’t feel outside the realm of possibility.
The interesting bit isn’t necessarily what the clip shows but who posted it. Normally we would expect this kind of collaboration to be focused on Japan and posted initially to Japanese social media accounts. The fact that the trailer was released on the US social media account for the fast-food chain tells us that it is probably going to get at least some release for overseas fans.
The surprising team-up between anime studio Pierrot and McDonald’s is still a mystery but more details should be coming before the end of the month.
