The Mean Girls movie which adapts the 2017 musical is finally here, and we've collected all you need to know about the theatrical and streaming release dates in this handy guide.

When is the Mean Girls release date if I want to see it in theaters?

The Mean Girls musical movie is set to arrive in US cinemas on January 12, 2024. Certain international territories, such as France and Australia, are getting it a bit earlier, on January 10 and 11 respectively.

While most countries are receiving the movie the same week, others will have to wait a bit longer. If you're in the UK or Ireland, Mean Girls won't arrive until January 17. In the case of Germany, the movie isn't opening until January 25. Some territories remain date-less, but you can keep checking all the confirmed release dates here and through Paramount's official channels.

When is Mean Girls coming to streaming?

You can watch the original Mean Girls right now without any issues, but if you're looking to stream or rent/buy this new iteration in digital format, you'll have to wait a bit longer.

Funnily enough, this adaptation of the musical was set to premiere on Paramount+ and skip theaters altogether, but the studio eventually saw a big opportunity in January 2024 for a theatrical release, especially after the 'pink madness' that Barbie unleashed in 2023. With merchandising and food collaborations around the brand also ramping up and finding great success in recent times, it only made sense to double down on a traditional release model for this new take on the beloved story.

Mean Girls (2024) doesn't have a streaming release date yet, but it's reasonable to expect it to drop after a theatrical window similar to that of recent Paramount releases. For example, last year's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts became available on Paramount+ roughly six weeks after its theatrical release date, which is a rather short wait explained by its middling box office performance in the US. On the other hand, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which wasn't a spectacular performer either, took three months to hit digital formats. Moreover, it hasn't hit Paramount Plus yet, probably in an effort to make as much money as possible from buy and rent options.

As it stands, it appears Paramount is toying with the release windows depending on each movie's box office performance and budget. If Mean Girls performs well enough without becoming a major hit for Paramount, an early spring release on Paramount+ should be on the cards. However, if the movie flops, expect it to hit households much earlier. Either way, we'll update this article.
