The first full-length Alien: Romulus trailer is here and, once again, the real bad guy is capitalism
20th Century Studios has our hearts a-chestbursting with the first full length trailer of the Alien sequel
45 years after 1979's Alien introduced both an evil creature and an arguably worse corporation, 20th Century Studios have released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Alien: Romulus, the latest addition to the Alien saga. Watch it right here.
As anyone who's seen the original Alien movie knows, the reason poor Ripley and her crew were stuck in confined quarters with a xenomorph in the first place was Weyland-Yutani, the faceless corporate entity that manipulated them toward LV-426. In the trailer above, it appears that a corporation is responsible for the terror the characters face, as indicated by the "our ticket out" line delivered at the beginning. Whether or not it's Weyland-Yutani that sends these poor fools on their suicide mission is unconfirmed, but I'd say it's pretty likely. The movie is set between the events of the original film and its 1986 sequel, Aliens, so Weyland-Yutani is very much still around and after that xenomorph for their own purposes.
Alien: Romulus is directed by horror maven Fede Álvarez, who directed both 2013's Evil Dead reboot and 2016's Don't Breathe. It stars Cailee Spaeny in the lead role alongside David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. Once you've checked out the trailer, you can get fully immersed in Popverse's Alien coverage with our guide on how to watch the Alien movies (in release and chronological order), our chat with star Veronica Cartwright about her role, and our praises of Jonesy, the best feline ever put on film.
Alien: Romulus invades theaters across the United States August 16.
