Please, Ariana Grande; follow your Wicked Oscar nomination with a role in the Spaceballs sequel, we're begging you

The casting rumors are wild but this one feels like one we absolutely need to see happen. Ariana Grande, Oscar-nominated actress, as the successor to Joan Collins in Spaceballs II.

The Wicked movie adaptation wasn’t just a huge box office hit, it is already looking like a launching point for a revitalized Ariana Grande. The Nickelodeon star turned pop star has returned to Hollywood and has an Oscar nomination for her role as Glinda. That has opened up a host of new offers for the 31-year-old singer and actress, including a part in the long-gestating Spaceballs sequel.

How much you believe these rumors depends entirely on how much you believe Hollywood producers and managers whose job it is to hype people and projects to ridiculous proportions. But, according to a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, offers have been coming in left and right since Grande showed her dramatic and comedic acting chops in Wicked. The film has secured 10 Oscar nods, including Ariana Grande’s nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In the months since the movie came out, Grande has reportedly been offered roles in “a disaster wedding comedy” and “a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show.” Both of these roles would work for Grande, who has proven she can wield her overwhelming cuteness as a comedic weapon in a movie, but the most interesting prospect is the role in the Spaceballs sequel that she’s been offered.

“Well, I can neither confirm nor deny, but I’m blushing,” Grande says about the casting rumors.

Now, this isn’t the first that we’ve heard of a Spaceballs sequel, but it does open the door to wild speculation about who Mel Brooks and Co want Ariana Grande to play. The obvious choice would be the daughter of Lonestar and Princess Vespa, but we’re hoping to see Grande fill in as a new model of Dot Matrix, the character originally voiced by Joan Collins. The casting could allow Grande to play against type in a more silly, comedic-focused role while still being her usual cute, sparkling self.

The world - and  parodies of galaxies far, far away - is apparently at Ariana Grande's fingertips thanks to Wicked and we're excited for it.
