The OTHER Avatar movie (no, not the James Cameron one, the Last Airbender one) adds The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun to its cast

The animated movie about an adult Aang has added Steven Yeun to a voice cast that already boasted Dave Bautista as its villain

Here’s something that might seem confusing. Just weeks after the third installment of James Cameron’s Avatar movie franchise reaches theaters — Avatar: Fire and Ash is set for release December 19, 2025 — another Avatar movie is scheduled to show up in the multiplex… but this latter option will be animated, and a spin-off from the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Oh, and it’s just added a fan-favorite actor to its voice cast, as well.

Variety is reporting that Steven Yeun has been added to the voice cast for the officially untitled Avatar animated movie set to be released January 30, 2026. (Previously, the movie’s title was revealed to be Aang: The Last Airbender, although it’s unclear if Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have dropped that title entirely or are just playing it cool for now.)

The movie, which will follow an adult version of the characters from the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, already has a voice cast that includes Eric Nam as the adult Aang, as well as Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza. Dave Bautista will voice the movie’s antagonist.

The feature is planned as the first in a trilogy, with former Avatar: The Last Airbender storyboard artist Lauren Montgomery and William Mata co-directing. Original Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are on board as producers.

The movie that may or may not still be called Aang: The Last Airbender is set for release January 30, 2026.
