He’s the best there is at what he does, bub, and what he does is… not return to the MCU, apparently?
After today's hours-long Marvel Studios livestream of the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, it appears Hugh Jackman will not be in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe event, despite his return as Wolverine in 2024’s smash-hit R-Rated MCU entry, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Who did appear in that cast list were a ton of his fellow X-Men stars, including Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy/Beast), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and James Marsden (Cyclops). Jackman's absence was notable from the list, especially since it ended with the reveal that Channing Tatum, who played Gambit for a very cameo-specific role in the third Deadpool movie, ended up on there. For that matter, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool was also curiously absent from the Doomsday cast. Apparently, you have to save something for the following year's Avengers: Secret Wars.
"Til you’re 90," Deadpool told Wolverine in his last cinematic outing. Maybe he was wrong?
Avengers: Doomsday snikts its way into theaters May 1, 2026.
