As it turns out, Patrick Stewart's time in the MCU won't be limited to his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Stewart is back for Avengers: Doomsday, joining Kelsey Grammer, who played Beast/Hank McCoy in Fox's original X-Men films.
Marvel Studios announced the news during a live stream on Wednesday morning, Pacific time. Before Stewart's name came into frame, the thrilling sound of the Newton Brothers' theme for X-Men '97 filled our ears - announcing that this was going to be an X-Men-related character.
Both Grammer and Stewart have previously made cameo appearances in the MCU, in 2023's The Marvels and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, respectively. It's unclear whether Stewart will be reprising the version of Xavier who appeared in that movie, the version from Fox's X-Men movies of the early 2000s, or another version of the character entirely.
Also, let's all remember that Hank McCoy was one of Charles Xavier's original X-Men in Marvel Comics. Will Jean Grey, Scott Summers (Cyclops), Warren Worthington III (Angel), and Bobby Drake (Iceman) appear alongside Hank in Doomsday? We sure hope to see some more mutants beyond Professor X, Beast, and Namor.
