Loki will bring about the end of the MCU as Tom Hiddleston is announced for 2026's Avengers: Doomsday

If Loki isn't keeping reality safe, then... what does that mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

And now we know that the end of time wasn’t the end after all.

Tom Hiddleston has been announced as appearing in Avengers: Doomsday during Marvel’s mammoth livestream, meaning that he is set to return as Loki for the first time since the 2023 finale of the Disney+ series Loki — which really, really doesn’t mean good things for the Sacred Timeline.

For those that don’t remember, Loki season 2 ended with the God of Mischief taking the place of He Who Remains at the end of time, creating a new Loom that strands together all of the Multiverse into one stable entity in the process. (Notably, the new Loom that resembles the World Tree Yggdrasil of comic book lore.) It was a solution that was intended to be permanent… which is to say, if Loki ever left his position, reality would collapse.

So what does it mean that Tom Hiddleston is going to show up in Avengers: Doomsday? Well, there’s got to be some reason that everything leads into 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, right…?

Loki is available to watch in its entirety on Disney+. Avengers: Doomsday will be released May 1, 2026.
