The director who turned Rampage into a The Rock movie is directing the newly-announced Bakugan live-action movie

There are over 300 episodes of the Bakugan anime across multiple reboots, so there is actually a huge amount of source material to draw from - for a movie about spinning tops.

If you thought it was weird that they were making an entire movie about Hot Wheels cars, wait until you see what other toys they can build whole media franchises around. Bakugan, the toy line that is essentially spinning tops that bang into each other and transform into monsters, hasn’t just become a merchandising phenomenon; it has spawned a massive anime franchise and is now set to become a live-action movie.

The live-action Bakugan movie is officially in development and has named San Andres and Rampage director Brad Peyton as its director. The man who made us believe that Dwayne Johnson could help a giant ape save the world is also going to be writing the screenplay alongside Lindsay Harbert. They’re hoping to capitalize on the fanbase that helped drive the creation of nearly 300 Bakugan anime episodes to help promote the incredibly successful toy line.

The original Bakugan anime only ran for one year, but it has been rebooted and changed multiple times over the years to capitalize on the ongoing popularity of the toy. Even as recently as 2023, new stories have been told in the world of the Battle Brawlers, which has included attempts to merge Earth with parallel dimensions filled with monsters. The series was immediately popular in the US; in fact, some seasons of the anime that were never broadcast in Japan aired in the US over the years.

It is still early days for the Bakugan live-action movie from Rampage director Brad Peyton, so we’re still waiting for a release date to be announced.
