Bluey Minisodes not giving you the fix you need? A feature length movie is coming in 2027

We finally know when we'll be back with the Heeler Family as they adjust to the events of The Sign in season 3 of Bluey.

If you have kids old enough to have a little screen time, you’ve probably seen at least a couple of episodes of Bluey. The Australian animated series about a family of dogs became a global sensation thanks to its mature take on modern family dynamics and ability to capture the boundless imagination of children. Now there will be even more Bluey on the way with the franchise’s first full-length feature film set for a 2027 release date.

The last full episode aired in April 2024 with no word on when a new season would be out. Since then, there have been bite-sized episodes of Bluey released on Disney+, but the possibility of a fourth season has been heavily speculated by fans. Now we seem to have the reason for the lack of a new season – all that effort has been going into the 2027 Bluey movie.

The Bluey movie doesn’t have an official title, but it does have a lot of familiar names behind it. Series creator Joe Brumm is directing the movie and, like the series, it is being produced by Ludo Studio. Series composer Joff Bush is back to provide the original score.

Why a movie? Joe Brumm says that it has a lot to do with how season three’s finale, The Sign, came together. The episode shunned the usual seven-minute runtime for a full 28-minute episode, proving that longer stories were possible. “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm explained.

The Bluey movie is out in 2027, though a more specific release date will hopefully be coming in the months ahead.
