What happens to the Breakfast Club characters when they grow up? Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, and Ally Sheedy map out their jobs and their sexuality

The Brat Pack have some theories about what happened to the Breakfast Club gang after high school.

In 1985 moviegoers were introduced to The Breakfast Club. The John Hughes coming-of-age teen comedy focused on a group of high school students who spend a Saturday in detention. There was the athlete, the brain, the criminal, the princess, and the basket case. By the end of the film, they learned to see past the social labels their peers had given them.

It’s been 40 years since this quintet spent a Saturday together at detention, and there have never been any sequels. This begs the question… whatever happened to the Breakfast Club? During a spotlight panel at Megacon 2025, the cast shared their theories.

“I think Bender is clearly the principal of the school,” Judd Nelson said. This is ironic, given Bender’s rebellious role at the time, and his rivalry with Vice Principal Vernon.

“I think Allison would’ve ended up being a writer. Probably a writer. Editor, writer, maybe a professor. Something intellectual,” Ally Sheedy said. This tracks, since Allison always seemed like she was the most introspective.

For Claire, Molly Ringwald had an entire biography planned out.

“I think that Claire probably got married a few times, and then maybe decided she liked women. I don’t know. I think she probably came out. You know, her kids are grown up, and she’s like, okay, I’ll try that. It didn’t work out so well with the guys.”

However, Ringwald prefers to keep their futures ambiguous, believing it’s more fun for the audience to come up with their own theories.

“One of the great things about this movie is that it’s great that we don’t know. It could be any number of things, and I feel like it’s up to the viewer to make that decision.”

The Breakfast Club cast will be reuniting in the movie's hometown of Chicago for April's C2E2. Here's details on how to meet them!
