Captain America: Brave New World is projected to match Winter Soldier's opening weekend at the box office as Marvel sends Cap back into the political thriller genre
Brave New World offers the same thing that Winter Soldier did: Captain America fighting bad guys in the MCU while not sure who he can trust.

A new world is rising. A Brave New World, if movie titles are anything to go by. Some would say that Marvel Studios has taken a big risk by changing up a winning formula, but Captain America: Brave New World looks set to match Winter Soldier’s opening weekend total, according to tracking service Quorum.
While the change to Sam Wilson as Captain America could be surprising for fans who didn't see Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+, there is a science behind the projection that Captain America: Brave New World will bring in between $86 and $95 million at the box office over its opening weekend. Quorum, who track awareness of films among the public to make predictions about how well they will do at the box office, figures that the MCU sequel is more recognizable than the other movies opening in the next month, particularly among those more likely to see the movie in cinemas rather than wait for it to hit streaming services.
If Captain America: Brave New World hits the top end of that projection, it would match the three-day opening weekend of Winter Soldier, proving that fans want to see Cap in a political thriller, unsure who he can and can’t trust. It also would provide an interesting counterpoint to the emerging narrative in some online circles that fans aren’t ready to see Sam Wilson as Captain America rather than Steve Rogers. While Civil War was technically a Captain America movie, it was really a superhero team-up film, meaning that the return to a more grounded, politically charged story like we had in Winter Soldier is a return to form for the series.
Captain America: Brave New World opens on February 14, 2025.
