Chris Evans says he's "on the hunt" to direct another movie, and tells us what (and who) he's looking for
Speaking at NYCC last year, the MCU's Steve Rogers talked about his previous project as a director and what it would take to see him return to the role

He's been wielded the shield as Captain America, taken two (or three?) turns as Johnny Storm, and is set to save Santa Claus this Christmas. But for all the roles Chris Evans has played, there's one that's he's only dipped his toe into - that is, director. Speaking with him at New York Comic Con, Popverse's video producer Veronica Valencia asked Evans about if he imagines himself stepping into that role again; this was his response.
"Yeah, absolutely. I did direct a film, oh God, 10 years ago now? And it was a really wonderful experience, and I loved it, but you learn how much it demands. It takes so much of you - the months of prep, the months of post - it really needs to be a script that, you know, it's the first thing you wake up and think about. It's the last thing you think about before you go to bed."
The project Evans is talking about is 2014's Before We Go, a romantic drama starring Evans alongside Alice Eve. Evans and Eve play two strangers who, after becoming stranded in NYC, start a romance that takes place over a very short amount of time.
"I was just so eager to get the chance," Evans says of directing, "I took a script that was kind of like a little broken bird. I was like, 'No, I can fix it.' You know?"
It's a broken bird that didn't quite take flight; at least not in the way that Evans might have hoped. Though critics called both Evans and Eve "likable," the movie received generally unfavorable reviews. Still, the experience has not turned Evans off the idea of directing. In fact, he's still looking for a, let's say, less broken bird to take wing.
"I've been looking," he continues, "I've been looking. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a writer - I wish I were - so that means I'm at the mercy of finding something. And unfortunately, those great scripts aren't just lying around. So I'm always on the hunt to find something, because I really did love the experience. But you understand what type of passion you need to have to go into that experience."
If we may be so bold, Chris - we know you were passionate about the MCU. And we hear snagging the director's chair in one of those movies comes with a pretty hefty payday...
