Charlie Cox reveals a a funny story behind Daredevil's appearance in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home

Daredevil has some famous reflexes, but him catching that brick...?

Does everyone remember the leadup to Spider-Man: No Way Home? There were plenty of surprises and twists leading up to the release, with fans speculating on the cameos and plot twists. Some of those secrets were big, like the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Others were more inconsequential….in this case, was a brick thrown at Peter Parker actually a brick?

If you need a refresher, during the first act of the film Peter Parker is dealing with the aftermath of his outing as Spider-Man. An angry pedestrian throws a brick into the window of his apartment, but luckily, it’s caught by his lawyer Matt Murdock. Charlie Cox’s appearance as Matt Murdock was one of the film’s many surprises, and it was a big deal since he hadn’t played the character since his Netflix series had ended in 2018.

Cox’s appearance was a closely guarded secret. However, the movie had so many NDAs, that Cox isn’t even sure if he’s allowed to talk about the true nature of the brick. During an appearance at Indiana Comic Convention 2024, Cox told fans the truth about the brick….NDA be damned.

“It was a snow globe. I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to say that. I don’t know what the rules are,” Cox admitted. The actor went on to say that he felt it was safe to reveal this one, since some internet sleuths had already deduced it. “I noticed someone showed me online, some supernerd fan had worked out that my hand wasn’t the right shape for the brick. He somehow deduced that it wasn’t originally a brick. I was like, ‘Wow, you have way too much time.’ But he was right.”

I don’t think Marvel will be upset about Cox pealing back the curtain on this one. It’s not like he revealed that Andrew Garfield was in the film before it was released. Then again….he actually almost did that one too.

Oh well. Still, whether it’s a brick, snow globe, or a billy club, it’s nice to know that Matt Murdock has a handle on things.
