The director of the horror hit Longlegs has a dream of directing a Darth Vader movie - and you have to read his pitch

Osgood Perkins has a dream to write & direct a Star Wars movie about Darth Vader's dreams.

Fans come up with ideas for movies all the time. But we sometimes forget that the people that make the movies are fans themselves. And when they talk about a dream project, it ignites our imagination like few other things. Take for instance Longlegs writer/director Osgood 'Oz' Perkins and his idea for a Star Wars movie.

Perkins recently took part in a Reddit AMA on the movies subreddit to promote his recent film, The Monkey. In this, a fan after my own heart asked Perkins "Is there a story you wish you had the budget or technology to make into a movie?" and we got this succinct but powerful answer.

"The collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories," Perkins wrote on Reddit

The idea of Darth Vader dreaming or having nightmares might seem odd, but it's actually a big part of Star Wars lore. There are 'Force dreams' that allow them to see the future through a twisted lens. In Star Wars lore, Anakin had Force Dreams about his mother Shmi dying, as well as his wife Padme - which led him down the path to the Dark Side.

Perkins didn't elaborate on his answer, but when asked for who his film heroes it's noticeable he doesn't name any Star Wars directors or actors, but instead cites the likes of Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, and the Coen Brothers.

Plus, Perkins is the son of Psycho actor Anthony Perkins and even shared the Norman Bates role with this father, playing a young Norman in Psycho II. Given Darth Vader's own patriarchal themes, imagine someone who grew up with that taking on Anakin Skywalker and what he became.
