DC’s Birds of Prey originally featured a fun game of hide and seek between the villains

Ready or not, here I come.
Some people never outgrow hide and seek, even if they’re Gotham City gangsters. The 2020 DC film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) gave Ewan McGregor a chance to cut loose. The legendary actor portrayed a fun (but dangerous) version of Black Mask, one of Gotham’s many crime lords. Throughout the film, McGregor’s Black Mask was unpredictable, unstable, and gave us some of the film’s most memorable scenes. However, it turns out that one of the most fun scenes wound up on the cutting room floor.
During a spotlight panel at SpaceCon San Antonio, Black Mask actor Ewan McGregor spoke about an interesting scene that was cut from the film. “Black Mask was fun to do. I really loved it. I worked with Chris Messina, who was sort of my right-hand man in that. We created loads of scenes that didn’t make it into the movie.”
“We made this funny sequence where they’re playing hide-and-seek in Black Mask’s apartment. And Chris Messina jumped out to catch Black Mask, and he fainted completely away from fright. They didn’t put that in the movie for one reason or another. But it was fun to do that. He’s a wonderful actor to play against.”
Honestly, I think McGregor and Messina were on to something. Every superhero movie could use a good hide-and-seek scene to lighten the tension.
