Did Heinz just reveal the intimate nature of Deadpool & Wolverine's relationship? We certainly hope so

Shameless marketing ploy or subtle hint of the steamy action that is to come? You decide.

Some things just go together. Peanut butter and jelly. Rice and beans. Ketchup and mustard. Now, Deadpool & Wolverine are joining the list of iconic pairings, but not before Heinz uses what is likely to be the biggest movie of the summer to shamelessly sell their condiments to the masses in a marketing team-up with Marvel.

In true Deadpool fashion, even Ryan Reynolds’ voiceover on the faux-trailer Heinz whipped up for this marketing ploy points out the obvious marketing ploy, and, right though he might be, they could be onto something here. Perhaps this is all a subtle reinforcement of the true nature of the two characters’ relationship, a relationship that stands to get a bit more intimate in this new film.

It isn't just a hastily cut together trailer that Heinz are using to hammer home the unique relationship between these two heroes. They're also giving you the chance to make your fridge look like comic con by dressing your favorite condiments like Deadpool and Wolverine. And, as cynical as we want to be about this, we can see the deeper meaning they're truly hinting at. Just like a ketchup bottle, sometimes you have to smack Deadpool on the backside to get him going, a problem that Wolverine is not known to have. One quick squeeze and the claws come out, so to speak. Yes, maybe this is a truly genius bit of marketing, priming us for the steamy romance that is about to blossom amid all the snikts and stabs that we’re about to see. Deadpool & Wolverine has the potential to be the biggest action-romance blockbuster since True Lies and Heinz might have found a way to let the world know early.

Or Marvel found a way to offset the massive budget for their sole outing on the big screen of 2024 by letting Heinz recut their trailer. We won’t know until Deadpool & Wolverine lands in cinemas on July 26, 2024.
