One of the big parts of Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine is the copious amounts of cameos in the film from Marvel heroes (and villains) of the past. Although we are very conscious of spoilers, when Marvel Studios themselves announces a cameo, it's fair to say that it's no longer a spoiler but in fact marketing for the film. And they did that at the movie's Hall H panel Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con.

Spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine.

One of the biggest surprises of the film was the return of Chris Evans in the Marvel role he made famous - no, not Captain America, but the Human Torch from the early '00s Fantastic Four movies. 

"I was so excited. Ryan's a buddy. He just shot me a text saying, 'Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?' I said, 'Oh my God! Of course,'" Evans tells Entertainment Weekly. 

"Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would've done it for because he's just got the Midas touch," Evans says. "His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you're going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan's humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety."

On reprising his role as Johnny Storm, Evans says thinking back to the two Fantastic Four movies was heartwarming.

"It's nothing but fond memories," Evans says. "Those were a big chapter of my life. I was 23 when I did the first one, and it was my first bigger studio film. I had done a couple movies at that point, but nothing at that level. These careers are little milestones, little corners that you round. Doing that movie, you turn a corner and it just feels like it brought me to the next level of my career. I loved working with the people that were on that film. I loved the role. It was nothing but love and affection for that time."
