For a movie adaptation of a beloved Hideo Kojima game, is it really all that surprising to see that A24 and Kojima Productions have brought on an immensely talented filmmaker like Michael Sarnoski to direct Death Stranding? We think not.
Deadline first broke the news that Sarnsoki will helm the movie adaptation, alongside writing the screenplay. Death Stranding will mark Sarnoski return to working with A24, as currently he's finishing up his film, Death of Robin Hood, with the indie powerhouse company. The plot of Death Stranding follows a man named Sam, living in an apocalyptic United States that's haunted by the effects of the "Death Stranding" event, whereupon invisible creatures roam the landscape. It's a high concept sci-fi story, fit for the big screen.
Sarnoski first rose to fame when he directed Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, a film that reminded the world of Cage's immense acting talents. More recently, Sarnsoki directed A Quiet Place: Day One, a rare spinoff film that's better than its franchise predecessors.
As for Hideo Kojima, he was recently at SXSW promoting his upcoming game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. And if you haven't seen his social media posts where he enthusiastically talks about movies he's seen, then you're in for a treat. Kojima loves cinema, and cinema has every reason to love him back.
