Dav Pilkey's Dog Man to achieve the pinnacle of adaptations: A limited-edition popcorn bucket

Sure, Dog Man by Dav Pilkey has sold some unfathomable number of graphic novels and is appearing in a movie in 2025. But can you eat out of any of those? I thought not

Dog Man has already conquered one of America's biggest exports. Over the past couple of years, the series has regularly been one of the top-selling superhero comic books in the United States, an area in which the character will no doubt continue to dominate after the release of his 2025 film. But now, Dog Man is poised to get the better of yet another major entertainment field: that is, the ongoing popcorn bucket wars.

Following in the pawprints of Dune, Deadpool & Wolverine, War of the Rohirrim, Nosferatu, and MANY others, the Dog Man popcorn bucket is the latest in a series of cinematic promotions that have taken moviegoers by storm. The details on the forthcoming buttered kernel vessel arrived via the good folks at ComingSoon.net, but before we explain what those are, take a look at the product below, featuring the art of creator Dav Pilkey adapted to film by Dreamworks Animation.

Yup, that's a dog bowl. What else did you expect?

The Dog Man promotional popcorn bucket is headed to AMC theaters exclusively on January 31, the day that the film drops. It comes out alongside a similarly themed Dog Man drink cup, which will feature the character of Petey (voiced in the film by Pete Davidson) as a topper. Together, the pair will cost $24.99 plus tax, and on its own, the Dog Man popcorn bucket will run you $15.99. Unlike some its competitors, the Dog Man popcorn bowl will hold the amount of a regular-sized popcorn, not a large.

Still, it's a momentous occasion for a franchise already conquering the hearts, minds, and wallets of folks across America. With the gears of the Dog Man engine still churning, we expect to see promotional material only get bigger and more complicated in years to come. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised to be announcing a Dog Man theme park wing some time in the near future.

But maybe that's wishful thinking. Dog Man comes to theaters (and popcorn vessels) January 31.

Popverse's resident Dog Man aficionado, Graeme McMillan, thinks that the superhero pup is the perfect introduction to comics... particularly, to Grant Morrison's.
