Pete Davidson is the ideal casting for Dog Man's kinda-sorta arch nemesis...?

We'll see for ourselves if it is a purrfect match in January 2025

The world always needs more heroes, but heroes are nothing without a good villain to fight. Batman has Joker. Superman has Lex Luthor. Dog Man has… Pete Davidson? The comedian is thinking outside of the litterbox as Petey in the new trailer for the upcoming Dog Man movie, which gives us our first taste of the big-screen adaptation of the publishing phenomenon.

Following an accident that nearly kills both police officer Knight and his dog Greg, the two are joined together by an experimental, life-saving surgery. With the head (and brain) of a dog and the body of a man, Dog Man is born. The trailer does a good job of capturing creator Dav Pilkey’s art style, giving lots of action and just the right amount of meta-humor to remain consistent with the Captain Underpants films, but the real focus here is Pete Davidson’s Petey the Cat.

We all know that cats are constantly plotting our downfall, but Petey takes things a bit further. While Dog Man is earnest and a bit simple-minded in his pursuit of justice and/or belly scratches, Petey the Cat has plans and machinations to contend with. One of those plans includes rolling through town in a tank, but sometimes the straightforward approach is the best.

Because Dog Man is silent through most of the film (head of a dog, remember?) we’re going to rely on Pete Davidson to really bring it as the villain in this film when it hits cinemas on January 31, 2025. The comedian can certainly bring the humor, but we’ll have to wait to see if he’s the purrfect casting we’ve been waiting for. He'll be joined by Lil Rel Howery as Chief, Isla Fisher as Sarah Hatoff, Billy Boyd as Cameraman, and Ricky Gervais as Flippy the Fish.
