Simon Stålenhag's story and illustrations for his novel, The Electric State, are absolutely gorgeous. Now, the Russo Brothers are bringing Stålenhag's dystopian novel to the screen for Netflix. The brothers have assembled a cast and crew featuring several folks they collaborated with in their MCU films.
With that in mind, what's the story with The Electric State? Read on down below to get the gist of everything we know about The Electric State.
What is The Electric State about?
The Electric State is about a teenage girl who travels across the Southwestern United States with a robot as they search for her missing brother. The story is set in a dystopian, alternate world in 1997 where gigantic but kaputt robots dot the landscape. These robots are left over from a war that the story takes place in the aftermath of.
Is The Electric State an adaptation?
Yes, The Electric State film adapts the novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. Stålenhag's book has sometimes been referred to as a graphic novel or a comic, but it's more of a novel coupled with detailed illustrations. The Electric State novel was critically acclaimed when it was published in 2018, and Stålenhag's artistic talent needs no introduction.
What is The Electric State rated?
At this point in time, we don't know what The Electric State film's rating is. Keep checking up on our page for the film here, though, as we'll update it accordingly.
Will The Electric State release in theaters or on Netflix?
The Electric State will stream on Netflix. At this time, we don't know if the streamer has any plans for the film to release in theaters. Netflix hasn't been particularly committed to theatrical releases in the past, with David Fincher's excellent film, The Killer, barely playing in any theaters in the country (all of which were sold out). Likewise, Rian Johnson's Glass Onion got a very limited early theatrical release before it hit the platform. It's a shame because so many movie fans want to show up and see these films on the big screen, but aren't given the chance.
When will The Electric State be released?
At the moment, The Electric State has a release date of March, 2025. We don't have a specific release date from Netflix yet, but you know the drill, keep your eyes open for any updates from us.
Who is the cast of The Electric State?
