The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie almost got a key detail on Golden Freddy wrong

A frantic phone call to the director fixed the scene before it was too late.

Do you remember the Golden Freddy reveal from the Five Nights at Freddy’s film? It was so chilling when the creepy animatronic showed up to abduct Abby.

It turns out, that scene was very close to messing up a key detail about the character. Speaking to a crowd at Days of the Dead Las Vegas 2024, Freddy Fazbear actor Kevin Foster revealed that Golden Freddy’s scene was changed at the last minute.

“I was supposed to be Golden Freddy,” Foster said. “I was going to get into the Golden Freddy suit, but if you were really versed in the games, you know that Golden Freddy doesn’t move.”

Luckily, Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon was a producer on the film, and he was able to flag the mistake. “Scott called the director that day and said, ‘Golden Freddy doesn’t move,’” Foster recalled.

As a result, Foster didn’t don the Golden Freddy suit. However, he was still needed for the scene. “For the cab scene, do you remember when Golden Freddy gets in the cab and it tilts sideways? How we did that was the special effects team got on the left side of the car. Me and Andy, our stunt coordinator were hanging on the rear passenger door to rock the car sideways as if it was Golden Freddy’s 500 pounds rocking the car. We shot that scene 30 times. The entire time I’m hanging on the door of that damn taxi.”

Five Night’s at Freddy’s is currently available on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital.
