After battling aliens in the excellent 2023 film, No One Will Save You, Kaitlyn Dever is here to join the Monsterverse proper with the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. At this time, the film doesn’t have a title yet, but is set to be released on March 26, 2027.

Deadline first reported the news that Dever has been cast in the sequel film. And the announcement kicks off what will likely be a stellar year for the actress. Dever will play the role of Abby in the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us, out in April. She will also headline the Netflix series, Apple Cider Vinegar, out next month.

With Kaitlyn Dever on board for the Godzilla x Kong sequel, we’ve got a new creature feature queen in town. In case you missed No One Will Save You, Dever plays a reclusive young woman who must defend herself when her home is invaded by mysterious aliens. While the premise may seem schlocky, the film’s minimal dialogue and strong, emotional performance from Dever makes it worth your while. And considering that The Last of Us takes place in a world overrun by fungus zombies, it’s clear that Dever isn’t turning her back on genre work any time soon.

While Dever is now getting more widespread recognition in sci-fi and horror projects, she made a solid impression early on in her career with a supporting role in the FX series, Justified. While she was not in the Justified: City Primeval follow-up miniseries, we understand that her schedule has been busy lately. With a talent like Dever lined up for the Godzilla x Kong sequel, the Monsterverse’s future is in good hands.
