John Carpenter's love for video games comes full circle with two (!) new Halloween games on the horizon

Studio Boss Team Games, who are developing the games based on Carpenter's seminal 1978 slasher, say the horror icon is "intimately involved" with production

John Carpenter loves video games. Like, a lot. So much so that, in 2023, he told Business Insider that gaming and watching basketball were "all I care about doing." But save for a cult-hit adaptation of The Thing, a next-to-forgotten 1986 beat-em-up based on Big Trouble in Little China, and one or two others, video games have yet to return Carpenter's love. At least, not until today.

According to IGN, gaming studio Boss Team Games are developing not one, but two video games based on Carpenter's original 1978 film Halloween, and Carpenter himself is reportedly "intimately involved." IGN revealed the first piece of promo art for none of those games, which you can view below.

Boss Team Games, if you're not familiar, have already made a name for themselves in the world of horror gaming with the massively popular Evil Dead: the Game, which adapted a different drive-in era horror franchise for modern gamers. Their new Halloween game will be crafted in the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, and yet, we can't help but think that their most powerful asset is having one of Halloween's co-masterminds (remember, the movie was a John Carpenter/Debra Hill production) along for the ride.

"As a huge gamer myself," Carpenter said in a press release for the games, "I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly."

We bet you will, John, but for now, we're just happy that your love affair with games is taking the next step. Here's hoping we'll be hearing about an In the Mouth of Madness adaptation soon.

Boss Team Games's Halloween games are currently without release dates, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear about them. In the meantime, you can check out Popverse's Halloween watch order.
