Harrison Ford didn't read the script for Captain America: Brave New World before agreeing to join the MCU - and he didn't know he was playing Red Hulk either

We get that Harrison Ford is out to have a good time at this stage in his career, but this is pretty cavalier even for him.

Movie fans have been watching Harrison Ford enter his crotchety old-man era for a few years now, but his recent entry to the MCU has certainly cemented this status. Not only did he have a, shall we say, colorful way to ring in each new scene on the set of Captain America: Brave New World, but he seems to have signed up for his first Marvel movie without even reading the script – or knowing who he would be playing by the end of the film.

In a recent interview, the Hollywood legend admitted that he didn’t bother to read the script for Captain America: Brave New World before agreeing to be in the movie. “Again, no script. Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time.”

Comic book fans would immediately have spotted that Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross – originally played by William Hurt in the MCU starting with The Incredible Hulk – turns into Red Hulk, but that fact wasn’t explained to Ford until he got deep into production of the film. “I didn’t really know that at the end, I would turn into the Red Hulk,” he admits. Though, he seems to have taken the twist in stride. “Well, it’s like life; you only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing.”

Truly words to live by.

Captain America: Brave New World, which apparently features a very confused and angry Harrison Ford as the Red Hulk, is out in cinemas on February 14, 2025.
