This one is a bit more harrowing than your typical romance.

If you’re looking for a joyful romance film to get lost in this summer, you might want to look elsewhere than It Ends with Us. Though the book is billed as a romance novel, its focus is firmly on the worst parts of romantic relationships. Abuse, trauma, and sexual assault all feature heavily in the story of a young woman trying to end the cycle of abuse her family has been stuck in for years. When the It Ends with Us release date arrives, you’ll need to brace yourself for a bit of a difficult watch.

The release date for It Ends with Us has been pushed back multiple times this year, but we finally know when we will be able to see it. It Ends with Us will hit US cinemas on August 9, 2024, though it was originally meant to be released in February before being pushed back to June and finally August. The reason for the release date fluctuations seems to be Sony believing that the film can be a solid counter to the typical summer blockbuster season.

We can see the logic in the move; it will give theatergoers a chance to see the first big romantic film of the summer – Deadpool & Wolverine – before settling down for a more intimate, grounded movie. That relies on It Ends with Us being able to scrape some marketing oxygen away from the latest MCU film.

After multiple delays, It Ends with Us is set to hit US cinemas on August 9, 2024.
