James Earl Jones dead - the iconic Darth Vader, Mufasa voice actor was 93

James Earl Jones, who's voice was a powerful as the presence he commanded on screen, passed away in his home in Dutchess County, NY

James Earl Jones has passed away at the age of 93. Per Deadline, the storied actor died in his home in Dutchess County, NY.

Jones's career spans decades of film, television, and stage performances. One of the few people to have received the EGOT achievement - that is, winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award, respectively - Jones starred in revered classics such as Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, and Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. On Broadway, Jones's live performances have been awarded stretching as far back as 1969 and as recently as 2017.

Here at Popverse, Jones is perhaps best known for providing the imposing and iconic voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise. Jones lent his voice to the character in the majority of the movies, including A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, and The Rise of Skywalker. on the small screen, Jones gave voice to Vader in both Star Wars: Rebels and Obi-wan Kenobi.  Even the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special featured Jones in the role of the classic villain.

But villainy was hardly Jones's only legacy in terms of ubiquitous pop culture characters. In 1994, Jones inspired a generation to "Remember who you are," lending his voice to the character of Mufasa in Disney's original Lion King.

I'm sure I speak for Jones's many, many fans when I say: we shall certainly remember him.
