Jason Momoa confirms that he's coming back in Dune 3, dropping a big spoiler for a book that has been out for almost 60 years
Dune Messiah was published in 1969, so the fact that Jason Momoa is coming back for the movie adaptation shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

There are a handful of actors who are seemingly in everything. Jason Momoa might have completed his stint as Aquaman, but he is already planning a return to DC as Lobo and he’ll be joining Jack Black in the Minecraft movie this year. If that wasn’t enough, Momoa has also confirmed that he’s returning for the in-production Dune 3 despite his character famously dying in the first Dune movie.
Jason Momoa confirmed that he is coming back for Dune 3 on the Today Show, citing the fact that the books have been out long enough that the fact his character returns as a clone in Dune: Messiah shouldn’t be a spoiler. “I’m not sure if I’m gonna get in trouble or not, but it’s the same thing with, like, Game of Thrones, you know what I mean? If you didn’t read the books, it's not my fault, right? Yeah… I’m gonna be coming back.”
While some people might decry this as a spoiler, Jason Momoa is right – Dune Messiah, which is the basis for Dune 3, was published back in 1969, so it is fair that many people already know what is going to happen. Duncan Idaho (or at least his clone) plays a big part in the events of the book so it would almost be strange if we didn’t have Momoa back in Dune 3.
Dune 3, with Jason Momoa back as Duncan Idaho, will be back in cinemas on December 18, 2026 and is expected to begin filming in Summer 2025.
